Trainee Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant

About the Company:

Our client is a specialist building company whose head office is in Essex. They specialise in High end luxury residential refurbishment and alteration for properties in and around London, the areas they mainly cover are Knightsbridge, Kensington & Chelsea, Mayfair and Belgravia.  Some of their projects include, Eaton Square which is a design and build refurbishment of a penthouse apartment for the Grosvenor Estate and Mounts Street an alteration and refurbishment project to apartments in the Mayfair area.


About the Role:

Our client have released an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant to work as part of their team. You will work alongside other Quantity Surveyors and will provide assistance throughout the full life cycle of the build including the execution of commercial, financial and contractual matters.


If you already have experience in Quantity Surveying then this is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking company with a great reputation and established QS team. This role will be based at their head office in Essex and will involve occasional travel to other sites in the London area. Duties will include but not be limited to:


  • Assisting in preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client
  • Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control
  • Advising on procurement strategy
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
  • Preparing and analysing costings for tenders
  • Allocating work to subcontractors
  • Building client relationships



The ideal candidate will have some work experience with a construction contractor. You may have or be studying for a degree, A-Levels or HNC in a construction related discipline and will have a keen interest in the main contracting and prime residential sectors of the construction industry, be confident, able to build relationships quickly, have strong IT skills (particularly Microsoft Word/Excel) and have a commercial mind set.
