Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 plus excellent benefits.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Bid Director, the role of the Senior Estimator is a position of responsibility requiring an in-depth knowledge of construction and specifically the interiors sector of the construction industry.

The role requires the ability to price projects or tender for work in a detailed, accurate and highly competitive manner, often within challenging time frames and providing the Company with the very best commercial advantage to win successful business. We expect this to be undertaken in a professional and disciplined manner to ensure financial risk to the Company is kept to an absolute minimum and Company quality standards are maintained. This needs to be achieved whilst adhering to statutory building regulations and any other governance as required.

Due to the focus of the Company being primarily a ‘design and build’ business the position holder must be able to support the design team, advising on new products and materials as well as the most appropriate and cost effective build methodology enabling designs to be reflective of client budget requirements and Company profit opportunity.

As an integral part of the senior management team, the individual will have access to company sensitive information, which must be maintained in strict confidence at all times. As an ambassador of the organisation the job holder will be expected to uphold the Paragon brand and policies with all internal and external stakeholders.


1)Review initial drawings, specifications and tender / contract documentation to advise and report on the suitability and viability of the project to be priced and bid.

2)Carefully inspect tender documentation including drawings (internal and external) and other contract documentation, analyse exact requirements and identify areas that have or may have an impact on the business, the tender return and / or the bid strategy.

3)Consult with clients, vendors and personnel within other Paragon departments to formulate estimates and resolve any construction issues.

4)Visit and thoroughly survey sites establishing information regarding access arrangements, drawing accuracy and construction viability, welfare and other special requirements including but not limited to services such as water, gas and electricity or any unique site requirements which may have an impact on the overall project bid.

5)Following the site survey, establish the quality and quantity of materials and labour requirements by being able to complete a ‘take off’ using standard Paragon estimating systems and procedures, filling in dimensions, numbers of units as well as ascertaining product and material costs.

6)Review material and labour requirements to decide whether it is more cost effective to work on a labour only or labour and materials sub-contractor package basis and compile pricing and or tender documentation accordingly.

7)Where not previously assessed, carry our Sub-Contractor / Supplier Assessments to ensure supplier meets required quality, health & safety, cost / financial, environmental, resource and program requirements.

8)Complete tender packages for issue to contractors and sub-contractors and monitor and control returns against agreed timelines.

9)Analyse contractor, sub- contractor submissions to establish the most suitable and commercially viable price taking into account lead times, risk and product or service suitability against the deliverable aspects of the project programme.

10)Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations as required with all interested parties.

11) Establish equipment and preliminaries requirements, delivery sequencing and programming, resources required and the physical constraints of the site as well as allowing for waste materials, potential inclement weather, supplier lead times and other factors which may impact on the project or cause increased cost or delay.

12) Prepare and maintain a directory of approved suppliers, contractors and or sub-contractors and deal with these in a professional manner ensuring our supplier base is maintained and developed using partnership principles to manage the relationship.

13) Prepare a cost summary for the entire project including preliminaries, the cost of labour, equipment, materials, contractors and sub-contractors, overheads, taxes, insurances, legal compliances, bonds, insurances and agreed mark-up ready for an internal adjudication of the proposed tender sum prior to submission to the client organisation.

About the benefits / rewards:

The company offers excellent opportunities and offers a flexible and negotiable basic salary. A guideline salary would be £45,000 to £65,000 dependent on experience. Candidates will ideally have a degree or similar qualification and have at least 6 years estimating experience with a contractor. Industry experience will ideally be in the building environment for reputable main contractors.
