Quantity Surveyor/Estimator – Restoration

About the Company

Our client is a well-respected specialist with 20 years of experience in the field of façade repair and restoration market across London and the surrounding areas. They act as principle contractor, with projects ranging across the from High Specification Residential, Government, Private, Public and Leisure sectors.  The have worked on many prestigious projects including numerous London Theatres, Historic Markets, Historic Public Houses, and London Estates. Most of their work comes from repeat business and prestigious client referrals with whom they have built close relationships.

About the Role 

Due to our client’s increased workload they are currently looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join the team. This is an important strategic position within the business and offers a direct structured route to directorship.  The role is most suited to those who have a genuine passion to work with listed, period and historic buildings.

The candidate will have a Surveying or Estimating construction background. You will be based in their head office which is located in North London. Duties will include but will not be limited to:


  • Analysis tender receipts to establish if they fit the companies remit
  • Co-ordinate site visits with contracted QS to attend site allowing to correctly measure/record information.
  • Subcontractor packages – Prepare and issue documentation; co-ordinate site visits for various trades and packages.
  • Analyse sub-contractors costs to ensure best value to suit individual project.
  • Liaise with the Managing Director to review the proposed tender prior to submission.
  • Prepare and submit tenders in accordance with the tender submission requirements.
  • Endeavour to undertake any given tender to price on a profitable basis
  • Ensure tender submission deadlines are met

Quantity Surveying

  • Assist with compiling the documentation required for tender selection interviews.
  • Attend tender selection interviews
  • At pre-commencement stage organise the financial budgets, place sub-contract orders and liaise with logistics’ director for an organised start.
  • Attend the site works including site meetings, assist preparing schedules of variations, co-ordinate valuations, co-ordinate the on-going budget through to final account.
  • Place orders with sub-contractors and specialist
  • Ensure long lead in items are ordered and programmed accordingly.
  • Assist the contracts manager on the overall project to ensure time frames met, budgets or variations adhered to through to a successful financial profit on costs.
  • Submit monthly projected figures and applications to the company manager.
  • Continuously monitor CVR’s.
  • Manage the financial file & correspondence
  • Complete any given project to obtain a financial profit on costs expended.
  • Manage client expectations throughout the project to avoid conflict on financial issues

 About the benefits / rewards:

The salary will be dependent on level of exposure to industry. The company offers excellent opportunities and offers a basic salary between £45,000 – £65,000. This is an important strategic position within the business and offers a direct structured route to directorship


The Suitable candidate will have experience in Estimating or work in a commercial role (Surveying, Pre Construction) within a construction discipline.

  • IT Literate. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Work, Excel and Project).
  • Previous experience and knowledge working with listed, period and historic buildings is preferable.
  • Good knowledge of construction management process and techniques.
  • Degree educated or solid heritage restoration experience
