Quantity Surveyor – Small Main Contractor

The Company

Our Client are a privately owned business with a family feel. They are approaching 100 years of business, operating out of their South Hertfordshire office. They service works across London and the Home Counties and offer construction, maintenance services to their clients. The business has grown from their core services background and over recent years strategically grown their main contracting business. They cover private and public sector new build and refurbishment contracts. Working on buildings varying from high end residential, hospitals to schools, churches and leisure facilities.

 

The Role

Our client is currently looking for a progressive Quantity Surveyor that has knowledge of the new build and refurbishment processes within the main contract building environment typically covering education, healthcare, commercial, retail, leisure, residential and specialist projects. Projects will typically be valued from £100k – £3m. The individual will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. There will be logical, transparent benefits with the development of this role as the success of the business stream develops. Your duties will include but will not be limited to:

 

  • Analyse returned tender and recommend the most commercially viable contractor
  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement to meet required deadlines
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements.
  • Take specifications and drawings from Construction handover and prepare suitable packages for tender.
  • Undertake monthly cost reports and estimate future likely cost expenditure.
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget to Senior Management
  • Monitor, reconcile and recharge any costs, which relate to shared cost items with either other businesses within the Group or external Companies.
  • Input and maintain any computer based databases or systems.

 

About the Benefits/Rewards:

The base package is circa £50,000 – £65,000 and the company’s main ambition is to bring an individual into the organisation with the ability to grow and become a valued member of the team. There will also be a benefits package in addition the basic, including car and pension.

 

Requirements:

The client is looking for someone with a main contract background, you must be driven and have a hard work ethic.  You must also have a structured permanent career with at least 5 years’ experience. It would be preferable that you have a formal construction degree / qualification in Quantity Surveying.
