Quantity Surveyor – Residential Refurbishment

The Company

Our client is a well renowned family owned construction group who operate across London and the South East. They have been in the construction business for over 40 years and have a well preserved reputation employing approximately 500 personnel. Our client is continually growing and adapting to the market’s needs. They offer a range of services across three defined divisions, new build residential, contracting and social housing/maintenance. Current & recent projects include and a £100m residential new build project across 4 phases and years and a £9m 51 low rise unit development. Other projects include new building for LA’s and a £5m new build college in East London.


The Role

They are looking for someone who has a solid permanent work background and has worked for main contractor. It is important that candidate has a sound knowledge of building processes within the main contract building environment typically covering residential refurbishment projects.  Our client has been awarded some unique residential refurbishment projects in North London, working alongside English Heritage. Projects will also include elements of build, such as utilising additional space on roof spaces.


It is an excellent opportunity for those with the desire to achieve results by hard work and who wish to participate in the future of a progressive organisation.  Your duties will include but will not be limited to:


  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement
  • Payment of subcontractors, variation orders and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements
  • Analyse returned tenders and recommend the most commercially viable contractor
  • Monitor and explain subcontractor cost movements
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Undertake monthly cost reports
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs to the Senior Surveyor
  • Forecast final accounts
  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Any other duties as required by the Commercial Director


About the Benefits/Rewards:

The base package is circa £45,000 – £60,000 and the company main ambition is to bring an individual into the organisation with the ability to grow and become a valued member of the team. There will also be a benefits package in addition the basic salary. The company encourages promotion for candidates that are enthusiastic and competent.



The client is looking for someone with a main contracting background, you must be driven and have a hard work ethic.  You must also have a structured permanent career. It would be preferable that you have a formal construction degree / qualification in Quantity Surveying. Our client wants someone that is lateral thinking and highly developed problem-solving abilities.
