Quantity Surveyor – Main Contractor

The Company

Our client is a strong, mid-sized main contractor based in SW London. They have over 30 years’ experience in private and public sector new build and refurbishment contracts, undertaking contracts in the education, health, industrial, leisure and retail markets. Working on buildings varying from hospitals, school, ecclesial to sports halls and private residences. Repeat business is important to the company, as well as successfully tendering. They work throughout London and the home counties, recent contracting include a £3.5m internal and external refurbishment of a listed school, refurbishment works at Queens Club, and a £1.3m office refurbishment in Fleet St.

The Role

Our client is currently looking for a progressive Quantity Surveyor that has knowledge of the new build and refurbishment processes within the main contract building environment typically covering education, healthcare, commercial, retail, leisure, residential and specialist projects.  The individual will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. There will be logical, transparent benefits with the development of this role as the success of the business stream develops.  Your duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement to meet required deadlines
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements.
  • Take specifications and drawings from Construction handover and prepare suitable packages for tender.
  • Undertake monthly cost reports and estimate future likely cost expenditure.
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs to the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.
  • Be aware of all codes of practice that impact on surveying e.g. Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, HSE etc.
  • Any other duties as required by the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.

Requirements:

The client is looking for someone with a main contract background, you must be driven and have a hard work ethic.  You must also have a structured permanent career. It would be preferable that you have a formal construction degree / qualification in Quantity Surveying. Our client is looking for a Surveyor who is confident in their ability to run contracts independently with littler supervision. It is essential you have experience overseeing a variation of new build and refurbishment projects.
