Quantity Surveyor – Main Contracting

About the Company:

Our client has over 40 years’ experience in private and public sector new build and refurbishment contracts. They have operations in Ireland and London, working on buildings varying from schools and educational facilities to tower blocks, churches to sports halls, their enviable track record is based on expertise, experience and responsive environment. Staff progression and development is important to the company. The company has recently won multiple contracts recently and is now looking to recruit experienced Project Managers. This company has a very close, friendly atmosphere with the sense of a family company.

The Role

Our client is currently looking for a progressive Quantity Surveyor that has knowledge of the new build and refurbishment processes within the main contract building environment typically covering residential, education, healthcare, commercial, retail, leisure.  The individual will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. There will be logical, transparent benefits with the development of this role as the success of the business stream develops. This is an excellent opportunity for those with the desire to achieve results by hard work and who wish to participate in the future of a progressive organisation.  Your duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Analyse returned tender and recommend the most commercially viable contractor
  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement to meet required deadlines
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements.
  • Take specifications and drawings from Construction handover and prepare suitable packages for tender.
  • Undertake monthly cost reports and estimate future likely cost expenditure.
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs to the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.
  • Be aware of all codes of practice that impact on surveying e.g. Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, HSE etc.
  • Monitor, reconcile and recharge any costs, which relate to shared cost items with either other businesses within the Group or external Companies.
  • Input and maintain any computer based databases or systems.
  • Any other duties as required by the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.

About the Benefits/Rewards:

The base package is circa £55,000 – £70,000 and the company’s main ambition is to bring an individual into the organisation with the ability to grow and become a valued member of the team.

Requirements:

The client is looking for someone with a main contract background, you must be driven and have a hard work ethic.  You must also have a structured permanent career with at least 5 years’ experience. It would be preferable that you have a formal construction degree / qualification in Quantity Surveying. Our client wants someone that is Lateral thinking and highly developed problem-solving abilities should be coupled with a very strong academic background. It is essential you have experience overseeing a variation of new build and refurbishment projects.
