Quantity Surveyor – Retail & Refurbishment

Our client is seeking a Quantity Surveyor for commercial, cut and carve and retail contracts. 

About the Company:

Our client is a well-established building contractor who continues to grow comfortably and autonomously. They cover the Northern Home Counties down through London across the Commercial, Residential, Healthcare, and Education and can be anything from maintenance and repair through to multi-million pound developments. Some of their projects include a £1.42m New Build Office block for Lee Valley Park Authority, £2.5m New Sports Hall for Woodhouse College and a £1.2m different refurbishments for Watford General Hospital.

The Role

Our client is currently looking for a progressive Quantity Surveyor that has knowledge of retail, refurbishment and cut and carve projects. The individual will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. Your duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement to meet required deadlines
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements.
  • Take specifications and drawings from Construction handover and prepare suitable packages for tender.
  • Undertake monthly cost reports and estimate future likely cost expenditure.
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs to the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.
  • Be aware of all codes of practice that impact on surveying e.g. Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, HSE etc.
  • Monitor, reconcile and recharge any costs, which relate to shared cost items with either other businesses within the Group or external Companies.
  • Input and maintain any computer based databases or systems.
  • Any other duties as required by the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Director.


About the Benefits/Rewards:

The base package is circa £55,000 – £65,000 and the company’s main ambition is to bring an individual into the organisation with the ability to grow and become a valued member of the team. There will also be a generous benefits package in addition the basic salary.


The client is looking for someone with a main contract background, you must be driven and have a hard work ethic.  You must also have a structured permanent career with at least 5 years’ experience. It would be preferable that you have a formal commercial construction degree / qualification in Quantity Surveying.
