Project Manager – Main Contractor

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to lead a new build residential & education project within South London, with values to £10m. Areas covered during the course of this project are; demolition, piled walls, basement excavation and construction, RC, and some steelwork and masonry.  This will primarily be high spec work, and daily duties will include; Overseeing and managing the project using internal labour and outside agency staff whilst managing sub-contractors on a daily basis. Other responsibilities include first aid, review of sub-contractors method statements, weekly progress report to the Construction Director, liaising with architects, designers, buyers and sub-contractors.

Duties will include:

  • The ability to create, and edit programs and follow accordingly
  • A proven record in managing site teams including design team
  • A good understanding of contracts, contract law and the construction act
  • The ability to work alongside the Commercial Manager to ensure the project is profitable
  • Maintaining effective and long term relationships with the customer and their representatives and advisors
  • Implementing and maintaining company strategy and polices for sustainability, health and safety, quality, environmental, training and development
  • Ensuring the project team comply with the company’s business management system
  • Being proactive in the resolution of problems
  • Reviewing methods of working, alternative materials in order to maximise commercial profitability
  • Managing, supporting, mentoring and counselling members of the project team in their personal development
  • Seeking and developing on-going continuous improvement

The position will also require the successful individual to develop and control assigned project staff to establish and maintain highly motivated and dedicated project management teams.

About the benefits and reward:

The individual concerned will have previous experience as a Project Manager or a Senior Engineer with Project Management aspirations.  Experience in residential contracts is required, ideally with experience of R C Frames through to finishes valued between £5-£15m.  You will have experience of working on large multi storey developments and be capable of managing day to day without supervision. The ideal individual will be highly motivated, idea-driven and capable of exceeding expectations. Lateral thinking and highly developed problem-solving abilities should be coupled with a very strong project background.
