Project Director – Civil Engineering

Cityscape Recruitment is currently supporting a globally recognised Tier 1 Civil Engineering Main Contractor with their search to appoint an influential project delivery professional with an established background in the rail industry.

As an organisation they operate in a number or projects within Civil Engineering globally delivering some of the world’s largest and most complex projects for over 100 years. Their current portfolio of projects includes major highway alterations, rail and Crossrail civil and station upgrades as well as future projects such as HS2.

The successful Project Director will provide leadership for all construction phase activities within the project teams promoting Health, Safety, and Environmental best practice, as well as coordinating resources across the projects in close liaison with the senior team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the delivery of the projects
  • Mentor the Project Managers and senior management teams on the projects
  • Direct liaison and management with clients
  • Negotiations with regards to contractual issues
  • Helping set delivery strategies in place
  • Review of behaviours and initiatives
  • Manage and overview for risk and early warnings on performance
  • Share learning across the schemes
  • Work on SHE management
  • Overall responsibility for client interface and external stakeholder management
  • Responsible for coordinating the consortium parties into a program delivery team.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the integrated system delivery and coordination
  • Responsible for the safe and timely delivery of the overall integrated system


  • Senior experience working for a major civil contractor on UK rail projects
  • Demonstrable experience as a Project Director
  • Excellent knowledge of UK QHSE regulations
  • Good working knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Proven ability to lead teams and coach on performance
  • You will be qualified to Degree level
