Planning Engineer – Civil Engineering

An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced Planning Engineer to join a Tier 1 leading Civil Engineering Contractor to work on a major infrastructure schemes in Berkshire. As an organisation they operate in a number or projects within Civil Engineering globally. Due to an ever increasing workload, the organisation has an immediate need for a qualified agent.

The Planning Engineer will join their civil engineering division and become a key team member of the team. They will be responsible for the successful delivery of a wide variety of key infrastructure projects across the region. They will split their working week between the office and various sites in the region. They will work closely with the Project Managers and they will make sure the programmes are maintained and communicated effectively to the site teams.

The main purpose of this role is to provide support to the pre-contract tender team, finding solutions to engineering problems and planning bid winning methods of construction, programming and bid writing.


Main Duties

  • Provide assistance on planning, programming, methods of construction and solutions to engineering problems.
  • Ensure any programmes and supporting documents produced, comply with all scheme specific constraints.
  • Ensure that while planning each tender, all possible alternative methods and strategies have been considered and discussed with the tender team.
  • Provide supporting documents for each tender submission as required
  • Review all sub-contracted design work with respect to buildability and tender compliance, seeking advice from the Design Manager when necessary

Required Experience

  • Degree level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
  • Thorough understanding of Engineering Principles
  • Minimum of 2 years planning experience
  • Site based experience
  • Main contracting background
  • Ability to put a programme together from scratch
  • Good knowledge of construction techniques
  • Competent user of planning software packages – Primavera P6, MS Project Strong communication skills
