Materials Buyer – Main Contracting

The Company

Our client has over 40 years’ experience in private and public sector new build and refurbishment contracts. Working on buildings varying from listed building, mansion blocks, schools and educational facilities, churches to sports halls, their enviable track record is based on expertise, experience and responsive environment. Staff progression and development is important to the company. The company has recently won multiple contracts recently and is now looking to recruit an experienced materials Buyer. This company has a very close, friendly atmosphere with the sense of a family company.


The Role

The company is looking to recruit a Materials Buyer to their procurement team. The role will be based at our clients head office in Harlow. You will be responsible for materials purchasing across a variety of different project types in a fast paced environment. Duties will include but will not be limited to:


  • Chasing quotations and providing comparisons
  • Negotiating with suppliers & sub-contractors to achieve the best prices in compliance with deadlines.
  • Seek alternative prices as and when required.
  • Ensure all suppliers have the required information to enable them to provide timely quotations that are compliant.
  • Maintaining and expand the Materials database.
  • Raising purchase ledger orders.
  • Keep detailed records and maintain a well organised work schedule.
  • Carry out any reasonable request of a similar nature as directed by Senior Management


Salary/ Benefits

Salary will be in the region of £42,000 – £48,000. In addition to this you will receive a generous benefits package including Pension & Healthcare. Experienced in buying materials is a must. A history of purchasing for local authority, commercial and residential projects would be highly advantageous. The ideal individual will be highly motivated, idea-driven and capable of exceeding expectations. Lateral thinking and highly developed problem-solving abilities should be coupled with a very strong academic or trade background.
