Health and Safety Officer – Main Contractor

About the Company: Our client are a well renowned construction company who specialise in new build and refurbishment, they have been in the business since the 1940’s and are continuing to expand their business throughout the UK, Ireland and Middle East with great success. They both build and civil construction, encompassing residential, healthcare, education, leisure, highways and infrastructure with projects ranging to £50m.  There is strong ethic built on reputation for achieving excellence which is reflected in the level of repeat business. Recent projects include refurbishments and St James Hospital and residential units at Beaufort Park.

 

About the Role: Our client is currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Officer. You will need to have at least 2 + years’ experience within the construction industry and have a NEBOSH qualification. The role will initally be based in Cambridge for 6 months, then in London locations. 

You duties will be:

 

  • Ensure application and enforcement of all company policies and procedures on Health & Safety.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, environmental legislation, codes of practice and any other relevant literature.
  • To ensure that each project is in possession of the relevant health and safety documentation.
  • Ensure targets and objectives are met – safety, accident analysis, etc.
  • Identify, implement and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Identify health and safety training needs on a continual basis and carry out training of company staff as appropriate.
  • To carry out and report on accident investigations as required.
  • Undertake site inspections and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct monitoring inspections of contractors undertaking high risk operations & verify their compliance with previously agreed method statements & risk assessments.
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture through company policy

Requirements:

You should have a degree or equivalent qualification in a construction related field or have experience of working within a trade. Experience in both new build and refurbishment with a main contractor is required. Ideal candidates will have experience of working within the role of Health and Safety officer for a minimum of 2+ years and you will need to have a very ‘hands on’ approach.
