ABOUT THE COMPANY

The company that I’m recruiting for are a privately owned, leading name within the Highways, Bridges and Civil Engineering sector within England, turning over £105M. Since starting up the company in the late 60’s they have become a very trusted partner with clients within Kent, Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, East Midlands and Yorkshire. The firm specialise in S278 and S38 works, as well as construction and maintenance work for all types of highway schemes, from minor roads to motorways and major route construction. They also specialise in the bridge infrastructure, utilities and rail. Their projects generally involve plenty of concrete works, deep drainage and major earthworks ranging in value from £2M – £25M.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Due to successful company expansion, my client is recruiting permanently for a Materials Buyer to form an integral part of the current group purchasing function of their well-established civil engineering company. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Manager, you will be based from the office in Huntington and the role is key to leading the company forward in assisting towards securing and maintaining key suppliers of materials such as aggregates, muckaway, and highway drainage, covering price, delivery and quality targets.

REQUIREMENTS

My client is looking for a professional who holds 5 years previous experience in a civil engineering purchasing role, procuring key materials such as aggregates, muckaway, and highway drainage. You must hold a full UK driving license and a proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend whilst developing a robust supplier base. Previous experience of Coins and / A-site and being CIPS qualified is preferred but not essential.

On top of this, as this is a permanent opportunity, you must be able to demonstrate stability of employment, hold each previous appointment for a minimum of 2 years.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

Work-life balance is massive within this business, despite them being a hands-on contractor they are also modernised, relaxed and truly appreciate their staff. This is all backed up with the very low staff turnover – people on average work for my client for 11 and a half years, showing people stay once they join. One of the reasons people stay with my client is because of the friendly, un corporate culture, they won’t make you stay till 17.30 every night just to prove a point, there’s flexible working involved, options to work from home and people enjoy and half a laugh with their work colleagues.

With regards to the salary on offer, this has been left negotiable as specifics will depend on previous experience and suitability. You will receive 26 days annual leave, which is exclusive of bank holidays, and you will be enrolled on to the company pension scheme.

Laura Pyle

A bit about me

I have worked in construction recruitment for 10 years now, having joined Cityscape Recruitment back in 2013 as a resourcer for the civil engineering team. Over the years, I progressed in my role and have successfully built my own desk specialising in recruitment for the demolition and remediation sectors, which has now been established for over 7 years. With vast experience under my belt and even more to offer, I am now also recruiting back within the general civil engineering market, working with Tier 1 main contractors and specialist subcontractors within the infrastructure, utilities, and rail sectors. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, taking part in park runs and holidaying in sunny destinations.

What our clients say

We have worked with Alex Wallace and the Cityscape Recruitment team for a number of years now and find their service excellent.

They supply well matched and vetted candidates and very quickly understood all our requirements. They have always demonstrated good market knowledge and an ability to deliver to our requirements.

Commercial Director,
Main Contractor

I have used Cityscape Recruitment multiple times over the last 5 years. Very pleasant to deal with and all candidates put forward for interview are well suited to the position and well vetted by the team, so there is no time wasted with unsuitable applicants. I would highly recommend Cityscape. I intend to use them again in the future should any vacancies become available.

Operations Director,
Platt and Reilly Ltd

The Cityscape Recruitment team has always been great to deal with. Always ready to listen to our needs and requirements, a quality some recruiters do not appreciate or have, then advising where they can assist in our staff procurement. We look forward to working with Laura and Cityscape in the coming years.

When you first contact us, be that through direct contact, responding to an advert or applying through our website, we will connect you with a consultant who works in your specialist area.

Initially, they will arrange a meeting to talk through your CV and career history. They will encourage you to go into detail about your background and experiences, capabilities and responsibilities, personal circumstances and any other factors they feel are relevant to help them build up a well-rounded profile of you.

We take extraordinary care in matching professionals to an opportunity – one that will help enhance their careers and a clients’ team. We therefore also use this meeting to empower you in your career. Using our extensive knowledge of the construction industry, we would provide in-depth overviews of businesses, projects and available roles, and guidance on where your strengths will add the most value and career potential.

After this meeting, the consultant will speak to a number of their clients about you and your CV. Who they speak to can be either jointly agreed upon or you can trust the judgement and expertise of the consultant to contact clients they feel are the best fit for your experience and goals.

If any clients are interested in meeting with you, the consultant will manage the interview process, coaching you before any interviews if required. (Further guidance can be found here.)

If you are successful in receiving an offer(s), our consultant will communicate this with you and help to negotiate the offer(s) and any other terms of employment.

Finally, we will support you in resigning from your current role, navigating potential counter offers and starting your new role.
