About the Role

Our client are seeking a Building Surveyor who has exposure to the Retail and Commercial sector. The role requires the individual to manage sites in the Southern Home Counties whilst reporting to a Line Manager in the midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to progress your career with a market leading consultancy who will provide work on a high quality portfolio of properties and with the aid of your Line Manager, helping to guide you into more senior positions.


The individual will be responsible for the delivery of all small works and maintenance for a regional portfolio of properties for a retail client, ensuring high quality work is carried out, adhering to the required budget and programme control. They will be required to interact closely with client representatives to support the overlap of Revenue and Capital programmes. Also to prepare specifications and issue written instructions to contractors and to measure work carried out and arranging payment of contractors. Other duties include some elements of building condition surveys to determine the necessity repair works and management of Dilapidations – surveys, cost assessments and reports.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree educated in Building Surveying or similar
  • Ideally 2 years industry related experience
  • Full driving licence
  • The ability to take on a high degree of responsibility, excellent communication presentation and interpersonal skills, combined with a high degree of self-motivation and time management
  • Proven experience of working for an organisation within the commercial, retail or licensed sector, with a large estate, and managing maintenance and property improvements
  • Able to demonstrate a broad-based knowledge of building construction work, monitor contracts and supervise on site and demonstrate effective prioritisation and decision making skills
  • Experience in negotiating with contractors regarding variations and preparation of final accounts
