Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Heritage & New Build

Our client is a well renowned construction contractor and developer who are at the forefront of specialist restoration and change of use residential developments. They have over 30 years of experience and are continuing to expand their business with great success within this niche area. They mainly specialise in restoration and conversion work on Grade listed buildings into high specification apartments, duplexes and traditional mews houses, alongside sympathetic new build elements. The business operates throughout the UK.

About the Role:

Our client have released an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to work as part of their commercial team. You will work alongside other Quantity Surveyors on some of the most exciting, interesting and challenging projects in the UK. You will provide assistance throughout the full life cycle of the restoration and build process including the execution of commercial, financial and contractual matters to secure top level financial and legally compliant performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking company with a great reputation and established QS team. This role will be based at their head office mid Essex or project based. Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Assisting in preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client
  • Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control
  • Advising on procurement strategy
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
  • Preparing and analysing costings for tenders
  • Allocating work to subcontractors
  • Building client relationships



The ideal candidate will have some Quantity Surveying experience and will currently be working as a Trainee/Graduate or Assistant Quantity Surveyor. You may have a degree, A-Levels or HNC in a construction related discipline and will have a keen interest in the main contracting sector of the construction industry, be confident, able to build relationships quickly, have strong IT skills (particularly Microsoft Word/Excel) and have a commercial mind set.
