Assistant to Intermediate Quantity Surveyor

About the Company: 

Our client is a family run contractor based in the Home Counties just outside North London. They have been in business for the past 15 years and have divisions undertaking both main contracting (residential, commercial and retail) and Building Works Packages (demolition, groundwork’s, drainage, brickwork and Block work, Screeding, Structural Steelwork and strip outs amongst others). Projects ranging from small values to £2million, across the Health, Education, Public and Community, housing (private and social), historical and Arts and Leisure sectors for both their own contracting arm and Top tier contractors including ISG, Overbury, Parkeray, Laing O’Rourke


About the Role:

Our client is looking for an Assistant to Intermediate level Surveyor who is commercially aware to help to deliver new projects typically consisting of builders work packages, steelworks and cut and carve projects. It is essential that you have knowledge of building processes within the main contract building environment typically covering education, healthcare, commercial, retail, leisure, residential projects. You will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. There will be logical, transparent benefits with the development of this role as the success of the business stream develops. Duties will include but not be limited to the following:


  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement
  • Payment of subcontractors, variation orders and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements
  • Analyse returned tenders and recommend the most commercially viable contractor
  • Monitor and explain subcontractor cost movements
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Undertake monthly cost reports
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs to the Senior Surveyor
  • Forecast final accounts
  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Any other duties as required by the Commercial Director

 About the Benefits/Rewards:

The Salary will be dependent on your level and experience within the industry. The company offers excellent opportunities and offers a basic salary between £25,000 – £50,000.


Candidates will ideally have a degree or similar qualification and have at least 2 years Post Graduate Quantity Surveying experience with a main contractor. Candidates should be able to demonstrate successful project delivery with the ability to work without support or supervision and a mature attitude to work.
