We hosted the tournament on 12th August at Harefield Academy. It was a very hot afternoon! However, the teams didn’t let the heat deter them. We kicked off at 1 pm on the indoor 3G pitches. Five group games faced each team with four coming out victorious to go into the knockout stages: AJ Morrisroe, Cleshar, Statom and Midgard (JRL). After hard-fought semi-finals, AJ Morrisroe faced Cleshar in the final, with AJ Morrisroe coming out on top as our tournament winners!
Well Done to all the teams who entered. The heat provided challenging playing conditions, but all teams played really well across their games. Everyone had plenty of fun throughout the day with many continuing into the evening.
Throughout the day, we ran some extra competitions – a crossbar challenge and a keep-up challenge. Paying a £2 entry fee, entrants either had to hit the crossbar from the furthest away or do the most keep-ups. Two members of the 8build team won these challenges and helped raise over £300 for bibic.
We also held a raffle with 22 prizes up for grabs. Massive thanks go to the companies who kindly donated gifts as they helped the raffle raise over £1300. We hope to get pictures of the raffle winners enjoying their prizes – look out for updates on these.
Thank you to everyone involved – our sponsors: 8build, Bugler Group, Ground Construction Ltd, Savills, Midgard and J Clean Ltd; the teams: Chelsea Construction, Statom, AJ Morrisroe, Cleshar and The Austin Company; and, of course, the organisers PMI 5-a-side!
Thanks also go to Phatbird UK, who kept all the players fed; Franks Coffee Truck, for supplying lots and lots of cold drinks; the Rose and Crown pub, for hosting our after-tournament drinks; and Ian at Parkers Photography, for giving up his afternoon to take wonderful photos of the event.
A final thank you goes to Andy Hirst – the fundraising manager at bibic – who came along to support the day. Of the event, Andy said:
“Cityscape Recruitment have been supporting bibic since 2015 and in that time have baked cakes, dived out of planes, attended gala dinners and lunches, donated money and in more recent years have bought, wrapped and delivered Christmas presents containing sensory toys and games for visiting bibic children to play with.
“Cityscape had been planning a 5-a-side tournament for a number of years but, due to COVID, they delayed it until August 2022. The day finally arrived, and the forecast predicted and delivered 30+ degrees and sunshine with 12 very keen teams ready to take part.
“I made sure the event was in my diary and drove up to Harefield to witness the most professionally organised football fundraiser I have ever seen. Everyone knew exactly when they were playing, food and drink was provided and extra fundraising events were arranged, including an incredible raffle.
“I am so grateful to Nathan and his incredible team (on and off the field) for all their hard work on the day, when they told me how much they had raised I was totally amazed. I could not believe it!
“On behalf of the bibic team and the families who visit our centre, I would like to sincerely thank Cityscape and all the teams who not only took part but who also donated to bibic through sponsorship, entry fees and the raffle. Well done!”
We look forward to organising our next event to raise more money for this very worthy charity.
