Are client are a residential developer prominent in Greater London, Cambridge and the surrounding areas within the South East of England. Their projects are all bespoke and include new build residential developments ranging from one off refurbishment projects to large scale schemes of 1300 units.
They have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Manager to join their London & East Anglia Division based at their head office in Herts/Essex. Reporting directly to the Head of Technical, the Technical Manager will be responsible for the day to day management and leadership of their inhouse drawing team. In addition to the above, the Technical Manager will play a pivotal role as Technical Lead for a large scale, high rise, mixed use development of up to 1100 units, in Barking. This is a prestigious scheme, split over 4 phases and will include 12 medium to high rise residential apartment blocks, gym, retail space and a community areas.
Key Deliverables:
This role will include but is not limited to the following:
Effective investigations, technical analysis and reporting of upcoming sites and schemes in preparation for pre-development meetings
Appointment of external consultants
Effective delegation of drawing packages Effective coordinated full working drawings of (often complex) schemes
Lead design meetings
Management of pre-lim meeting process, including but not limited to pack distribution, comment receipt/compilation, mark-up drawings, meeting attendance and minute distribution.
Compilation and distribution of contractual document drawings
Coordinate the effective amendment of drawings following pre-lim or addendum Securing ‘full plans’ approval and warranty provider approvals
Proactive liaison and support of internal departments and sites
Effective day to day management of budget
Continuous improvement and innovation with best practice and legislation change solutions and initiatives Effective leadership, management and development of all direct report employees aligned with organisational strategy, culture, values and HR practices
Skills & Experience:
This is an integral position for our team, therefore applicants must have previous experience of the following:
Managing a drawing team either within a practice, consultancy or another property developer.
A solid Technical ability coupled with strong people management and leadership skills is essential for the success of this role.
Successful candidates will have an interface with Board members and the Chairman and must be able to communicate at all levels.
Previous experience of managing corporate clients and partnerships would be advantageous. Up to date knowledge and effective application of UK building regulations Breadth of knowledge in construction methods/techniques and depth in varied/specialised methods Effective understanding and application of relevant design standards. Eg. Building warranties, lifetime homes and party wall etc.
Budget management expertise Previous experience of management of external consultants and their appointment
