Are you a Highways Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for long-term progression and managing the full commercial department?

About the company

Our client is a tier 2 main contractor who is currently operating at a turnover of £20M, they’re a family-run company who have been working in surfacing and highway maintenance for over 40 years. Our client has 2 offices, both based in North West London, which is where they do nearly all of their work, even though they sub-contract projects in Surrey and Buckinghamshire also. They have long-term frameworks as far as East London. In terms of stability, my client is a cash-rich company who are in a very strong and stable financial situation, they have very limited loans and debts. They also treat their staff with a great amount of respect and treat them as a name, not a number.

About the Opportunity

Due to the company’s expansion, there is a need for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the Directors, within their civil engineering and surfacing part of the company. My client is looking for somebody who’s very hands-on, somebody who can take responsibility, and somebody who’s also willing to help in other parts of the company if needed, E.g., estimating. There is a brilliant opportunity to progress into a head of commercial role and run, build and train the commercial department the way you want it to look.

The successful candidate will be responsible for measuring and managing costs on their responsible projects with the goal of making each as profitable as possible, ensuring the delivery of payment, and developing client relationships. You will also be involved in viewing and evaluating payments including site measurements (as necessary) and will undertake general surveying of projects as required. This will include reviewing and pricing variations and preparing valuations with Project Managers and the Commercial Director. The projects that you’ll be involved in will be highways. Footpaths, hard and soft landscaping, playgrounds, and surfacing within town centre aesthetic regeneration schemes. You will work on term maintenance contracts, dealing directly with the client as well as working as a Tier 2 for clients such as Kier Highways & Ringway Jacobs. There’s also the opportunity of working on private projects and doing the groundworks for residential developers.

About the benefits and rewards

This is a brilliant opportunity for a hands-on Senior Quantity Surveyor to progress, long term into a head of Commercial. You will be treated as a name, not a number throughout your time at the company.
