Our client is a main contracting business with a wealth of history in specialist construction projects. Within the past year the business has been acquired by a larger holding group. While retaining the heritage and tradition the business now has broadened their capabilities throughout the Home Counties, South East and East Anglia. Our client a true general contractor, undertaking contracts within the £1m – £10m range, operating in the Commercial & Industrial, Prime residential, Retail & Leisure, Health and Public & Community. Recent contracts include a £4.6m traditional 21 unit residential development in North West London and a £8m agricultural build.


About the Role:

Our client is currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join on a permanent basis. Current contracts include Commercial, Residential and public sector builds.


They are looking for someone who has a solid permanent work background and has worked for main contractor. It is important that candidate has a sound knowledge of building processes within the main contract building environment typically covering residential projects. The candidate will be expected to take projects from pre-award tender process through to completion. This is an excellent opportunity for those with the desire to achieve results by hard work and who wish to participate in the future of a progressive organisation.  Your duties will include but will not be limited to:


  • Sub-contract tendering and procurement
  • Payment of subcontractors, variation orders and settlement of final accounts
  • Monitoring and explaining cost movements
  • Analyse returned tenders and recommend the most commercially viable contractor
  • Monitor and explain subcontractor cost movements
  • Responsible for subcontractor payments, variation orders and day works and settlement of final accounts
  • Undertake monthly cost reports
  • Report on savings and excesses against budget costs
  • Forecast final accounts
  • Attend pre start, specification and any other relevant concept meeting as required
  • Any other duties as required by the Commercial Director


About the Benefits/Rewards:

The base package is circa £60,000 – £80,000 and the company’s main ambition is to bring an individual into the organisation with the ability to grow and become a valued member of the team. There will also be a generous benefits package in addition the basic (travel & pension).




The Suitable candidate will have experience in Quantity Surveying within the main contracting environment.


  • Commercial Management or Construction related degree
  • IT Literate. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Work, Excel and Project).
  • Good knowledge of construction management process and techniques.
