About the Opportunity:

I have been asked to recruit a lead Buyer for this specialist reinforced concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor. This position has a crucial part to play in the business’s ability to operate smoothly as you will be the central link between the suppliers and the sites.

Day-to-day duties will include negotiating prices with suppliers for materials and plant (steel, concrete, muck away, etc) and then placing the necessary orders for what is needed across 15 to 20 live sites around London and the surrounding areas.

An organised and efficient mind is needed to work practically with site teams to make sure not only are materials ordered at competitive prices but also that they arrive on-site when needed. No one wants deliveries turning up early, late or wrong!

Therefore, this opportunity will suit someone who has worked for a rival concrete frame and groundwork subcontractor in a procurement role already, and someone who is looking to take on their own department with the possibility of building a team as the company grows. I need someone who has the rival knowledge so both the prices of products are familiar but also the operating methods of a concrete frame and groundwork business is second nature too.


About the Employer:

I would describe this contractor as a medium-sized, modern, and highly regarded specialist subcontractor. They turn over around £50 million per annum but that is expected to grow this year and moving forwards. They have a close-knit team and believe in working together to offer a competitive solution to their client’s concrete frame and groundwork needs. Projects are spread predominantly around London, but they have been known to work as far out as Cambridge. And package values usually range from around £1 million to £15 million each.

On a personal note, I have known some of the directors of this business going back 10+ years and regard them as truly fantastic people to work with. About the Requirements:

The criteria I have been asked to keep to is simple:

  1. Any applicants must have worked for a rival concrete frame or groundwork subcontractor in the UK to be considered, in a procurement role.
  2. You should have an understanding of the various products that you will be buying in this role and a rough understanding of their current market rates.
  3. You need to be based within a commutable distance to our client’s office in Watford.

Outside of that, I am open to talking to any interested parties.


About the Remuneration:

As with most of the positions I recruit for, salary is dependant on experience, but I am expecting to consider individuals who are currently earning or looking to earn anywhere from £50,000 to £70,000 per annum. If you meet the criteria I have listed for previous experience, this ballpark area should be expected. Additional benefits such as car allowance, pension, and bonuses can be discussed at the point of the interview.
