Quantity Surveyor

Utilities/Civil Engineering

Great Yarmouth

About the company

My client is a rail & Civil Engineering contractor who has seen brilliant growth in the last couple of years and wants to see this continue, they have built up a brilliant nationwide reputation. Currently operating at a turnover of £50M they have built a great client base dealing directly with the likes of Network Rail, City Fibre, London Underground, and TFL. They’re multi-disciplined and cover several sectors within rail such as P-way, OLE, utilities, reactive works, rail electrification, communications, and infrastructure. The projects they get involved in can vary in price from £10,000 – £25M.

About the opportunity

I am looking for a Quantity Surveyor to work on City Fibre projects. City Fibre will be investing £3B + over the next couple of years, it’s a growing market and this is a great opportunity for you to get involved in a growing sector, working for a growing contractor. Despite the fact you would be joining an established contractor, this is a new part of the business. This role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to grow with the division and progress into senior roles. My client is looking for a Quantity Surveyor who doesn’t mind getting stuck in and turning their hand to anything that comes their way. Your traditional duties will involve overseeing the supervisor’s site measuring, managing the reporting, and dealing with contractual change. You will initially be managing a portfolio of works ranging around £15M per annum. There is a chance this could double fairly quickly and you could be managing a portfolio between £20M – £30M per annum. Despite the fact that it’s a utility-based contract, there is a long-term opportunity to get involved in other parts of the business such as rail or infrastructure.

Benefits & Rewards

You will be reporting to a Commercial Manager who has great experience in Civil Engineering, someone who can train you and assist you. On top of this you will get involved in several different types of projects, several different types of roles, no day is the same working for this company. You will be rewarded with a great day rate of £320 a day. The progression opportunities are huge, as previously mentioned you will have the chance to progress into very senior roles within the business.

It’s not essential but it is preferred you are degree qualified in a Quantity Surveyor course. It is however essential you have at least 4 years of experience working for a Civil Engineering, Utility, or rail contractor as a Quantity Surveyor for a UK-based contractor. I am looking for someone who has good stability in their CV and someone who is humble and a team player.
