My client is the main contractor who has maintained the well-being of the nation’s network of rivers, streams, wetlands, and waterways for over 40 years. Currently operating at a turnover of £31 million per annum and have gained a brilliant reputation across the UK working on the nation’s changing landscape and the environment. They specialise in civil and environmental operations across the UK. Some of the projects they have worked on have been River Thames, Blackfriars Millennium Project, and the River Wandle. They are partnered with stakeholders who share the same passion for preserving the environment, these partners are along with the likes Environment Agency, Scottish Canal, Canal & River Trust, and Wey & Arun Canal Trust. Along with preserving the environment, they have developed inventive methods to recycle waste products, patented waste treatment technologies, and incorporated species-saving solutions in the most sensitive habitats.

About the role 

Due to the company continuing to grow and win more projects they are now looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. The successful candidate will be setting out on site, driving quality, and coordinating the site engineering control activities to satisfy contract program requirements and delegating. My client has a guaranteed workload of 5 years which will offer you brilliant stability, the projects will range in value from £50,000 to £70M. The types of works you will be working on will involve dredging, flood defence, waterway maintenance & restoration, along with Marina Management, Design and Construction, and many more. On top of this, they are also looking for someone that they can train, develop, improve and help progress into a Senior Quantity Surveyor in a couple of years.

Some of your duties will involve managing a small commercial team involving Quantity Surveyors, Assistants, Juniors & graduates. You will be responsible for supervising, mentoring, and encouraging all junior staff in their personal professional development. On top of this, you will co-operate with, report to, and implement the reasonable directives of the Senior Quantity Surveyor and the Commercial Manager (functional reporting). You will also liaise with contracts management in the day-to-day commercial administration of contracts to ensure the financial success of construction operations and to keep the Commercial Manager appraised of all material events.

You will be rewarded with a basic salary ranging from £45,000 – £55,000 + a package.

Requirements 

  • Quantity Surveying Qualification – Degree level or equivalent.
  • Working as Quantity Surveyor for a UK-based contractor and having environmental experience.
  • Ideally, I will need someone with at least 1-year experience working for a UK-based tier 1 contractor.
