ABOUT THE COMPANY
My client is a tier 2 main contractor who work predominantly in London specialising in the rail industry. They are a multi-disciplined contractor with works ranging from track renewal and maintenance, planned and reactive maintenance, platform extensions, facility management and Civil Engineering services within a rail environment.
The company are currently turning over £85m. 2025 is looking like it could be a very successful year for my client with £60M worth of work already in the pipeline with projects ranging from £10M to £22M. The company ethos is extremely friendly and very teamwork orientated, they have plenty of social events and they work very closely with each other with continued support from the Commercial Manager and Commercial Director.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a brilliant opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who is looking for long term stability, hands on development, continued progression and a great work environment. My client has recently won a 5-year framework which could be extended up to 8 years working with clients such as Network Rail, TFL and Greater Anglian.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in a lot of client faced meetings as well as ensuring each project is profitable for the company. You will be reporting into the Commercial Manager who has progressed from a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, which illustrates how they take progression and development very seriously. the projects you will be working on will range from signal upgrades, Civil Engineering, cable pulling and station depot projects. There are 3 main projects that you will be assigned to, these are:
1.Camden Winding Vaults – £1.7m Extensive muck away, complex scaffold installation within heritage Camden Vault inc. design, M&E package inclusive of pumping and lighting scheme. Design at progressed state, and all subcontract packages procured aside from the MEP sub-subcontractor.
Westgate – £300k new cable trough route, grading of embankment and enabling works for new trough works.
Asset Protection – Ongoing survey works recording existing condition of NR infrastructure.
Rapid Response Teams – Standby teams on call to conduct track rectification works, often during weekend possessions.
2. CP7 which is a 5 year framework.
New contract we have been awarded as part of the CP7 scheme, contract to be signed in the coming weeks. You will be responsible from the point of mobilisation through to delivery and managing all commercial aspects of the contract. The works include both design and construction services for Lot 9 Off Track Framework. Work types will vary between planned, short notice, reactive and in instances emergency. The scope of works includes civil engineering works, enabling works, demo, drainage, fencing and vegetation management.
As the works are being delivered under Opt C, there will be heavy emphasis on the Qs to work hand-in-hand with the operational team to develop the target cost prices and implement stringent cost control procedures to ensure we benefit from the bonus incentive scheme.
In terms of recording and allocating cost, you will have a senior commercial administrator working with you who will have a significant involvement in managing these more administrative duties.
3. Wessex trackworks framework.
Framework contract, which NR use to procure track maintenance possession-based works delivered in the Wessex region.
Continuous labour only quotations, and competitively tendered possession allowing for works consisting of sleeper/rail/track replacements.
Client provides a high-level scope, which is then further detailed and specified by CCS’ management team and quotes submitted.
Possessions include supply and procurement of hire contracts with RRV plant and equipment.
Weekly progress meetings held on Team’s with the client, which you will be responsible for accurately reporting and updating on status of works, planned delivery, forecasting of costs and change notices where applicable.
REQUIREMENTS
You are required to have a good standard of education preferably to Foundation Degree level (HND,HNC or equivalent qualification) in either Construction, Civils, Commercial management or Quantity Surveying.
To be considered for this opportunity, you should have experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Assistant Quantity Surveyor within Civil Engineering for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 company. You will need to have 4/5 years’ experience in Civil Engineering and your work history should be stable; ideally you should have worked at your previous company for 3 or 4 years.
The role is a permanent position. No freelancers can be considered.
A UK driving license is mandatory for this role.
