Are you a Planner looking to work for a mid-sized national firm?

ABOUT THE COMPANY

My client is a multi-disciplined Civil Engineering contractor turning over £80M + who specialises in highways maintenance, highways infrastructure, traffic management, rail, and the environmental sector. They are moving into groundworks and earthworks as part of the growth plans for the business and have projects running near Nottingham and Colchester. These projects range in value from £2M – £13M. The company is huge on the long-term stability and career progression of its team. This is helped by the repeat business they get in Surrey, Sussex, Nottinghamshire, and Hampshire which is a result of their high standard of work. They get a lot of repeat business with main contractors such as Kier & Balfour Beatty as well as dealing directly with Highways England and many local authorities. It is also helped by the close bond from the management team down to the engineers.

ABOUT THE ROLE

My client is looking to bring a tender/site civils planner on board to join their Civil Engineering team in Nottingham. This is a superb opportunity for somebody who’s looking to work for a well-respected Civil Engineering contractor within a great office environment. This opportunity has come about due to company expansion and a healthy pipeline of work. My client is looking for a planner to work on highways projects, these projects could vary in types of works from Civil Engineering, infrastructure, maintenance, and roadworks.

The role will be based out of the Nottingham office but will involve travel to the sites on a regular basis. This is not a hybrid role.

REQUIREMENTS

You’ll be required to have a good standard of education preferably to Foundation Degree level (HND,HNC) in a Construction, Civils, Business, or equivalent qualification. It’s important to have experience working within civil engineering as a planner or an Estimator and to show good long-term stability at the companies you have worked for (1-3 years per company you’ve worked for). The successful candidate needs to have experience working on P6 and MSP. You will also need experience working with NEC contracts 3 and 4. You must have highways experience.

Experience required in the following areas groundworks, earthworks, civils works, enabling works, highways/roads and landscaping as well as having a working knowledge of drainage installs and producing activity schedules.

You must be able to create a programme from first principals and be familiar with using site drawings to complete take offs.

You’ll also need a full UK driver’s license to allow you to get from the office to the construction site and to other locations you might require to visit.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

You will be rewarded with a very competitive salary which ranges from £60,000 – £65,000 + 25 days annual leave. You will also get a company car/ allowance (£5-6k), medical cover (family), pension (3% emp. cont.), and Christmas bonus.

There is a lot of room for career progression within the company. The hiring manager has been there for 7 years and has worked her way from a planner to the head of planning during that time.

About this Recruiter

Alex Jacobs
Consultant

A bit about me

I have worked in construction recruitment for three years. I started working in the blue-collar sector but have turned my attention to white-collar recruitment here at Cityscape. I specialise in civil engineering opportunities – working with both Tier 1 and 2 clients in the highways, utilities, rail and water sectors. Before working in recruitment, I spent 20 years in the Arts where I was lucky enough to travel the world. But there are always more places to see so, travel remains important to me. I am into sports and am an avid supporter of Tottenham Hotspur. I have a wife and two children and live in Aylesbury. Most of my spare time involves parenting and entertaining the kids.

What our clients say

We have worked with Alex Wallace and the Cityscape Recruitment team for a number of years now and find their service excellent.

They supply well matched and vetted candidates and very quickly understood all our requirements. They have always demonstrated good market knowledge and an ability to deliver to our requirements.

Commercial Director,
Main Contractor

I have used Cityscape Recruitment multiple times over the last 5 years. Very pleasant to deal with and all candidates put forward for interview are well suited to the position and well vetted by the team, so there is no time wasted with unsuitable applicants. I would highly recommend Cityscape. I intend to use them again in the future should any vacancies become available.

Operations Director,
Platt and Reilly Ltd

The Cityscape Recruitment team has always been great to deal with. Always ready to listen to our needs and requirements, a quality some recruiters do not appreciate or have, then advising where they can assist in our staff procurement. We look forward to working with Laura and Cityscape in the coming years.

When you first contact us, be that through direct contact, responding to an advert or applying through our website, we will connect you with a consultant who works in your specialist area.

Initially, they will arrange a meeting to talk through your CV and career history. They will encourage you to go into detail about your background and experiences, capabilities and responsibilities, personal circumstances and any other factors they feel are relevant to help them build up a well-rounded profile of you.

We take extraordinary care in matching professionals to an opportunity – one that will help enhance their careers and a clients’ team. We therefore also use this meeting to empower you in your career. Using our extensive knowledge of the construction industry, we would provide in-depth overviews of businesses, projects and available roles, and guidance on where your strengths will add the most value and career potential.

After this meeting, the consultant will speak to a number of their clients about you and your CV. Who they speak to can be either jointly agreed upon or you can trust the judgement and expertise of the consultant to contact clients they feel are the best fit for your experience and goals.

If any clients are interested in meeting with you, the consultant will manage the interview process, coaching you before any interviews if required. (Further guidance can be found here.)

If you are successful in receiving an offer(s), our consultant will communicate this with you and help to negotiate the offer(s) and any other terms of employment.

Finally, we will support you in resigning from your current role, navigating potential counter offers and starting your new role.
