Operations Manager

Civil Engineering & Water

North London & the South East

£70,000 – £90,000 + full package

About the client

My client is a multi-disciplined, cash rich, well known contractor who are currently turning over £60M per annum (with goals and expectations to reach £70M within the next year). They specialise primarily within the water (waste water and clean water) and infrastructure areas of civil engineering, with offices in North London, Kent and on the south coast (this role will be based in there North London office, whilst travelling throughout the South East).

This position has come about due to continued and strategic ongoing growth but while the business is looking to expand, they are also keen to maintain their family feel atmosphere where it’s a fun working environment and everyone is treated as a name, not a number, with the respect from the directors across the company. During lockdown my client have been extremely busy winning and putting in more tenders. They have recently won a Thames Water Capital Delivery framework (£20M) as well as tendering for Affinity water non infrastructure framework (£15M spread over two years).

On a personal note, I have placed several individuals within this business, ranging from junior professionals too senior members of staff. Each individual has been there for a couple of years whilst really enjoying themselves and making a difference within the business.

About the opportunity

This is a superb opportunity for somebody looking for a new position where they can make a huge impact on a business as well as potentially progressing into a director position in the future depending on performance. The job title for this role is actually called a “Head of PMO” but the role itself is predominantly looking after all of the planning and programme management for the business across all of there frameworks. Despite the fact you won’t be getting involved in Project Delivery you will be liaising very closely with both Operations Directors, whilst reporting into the Framework/Managing Director and making sure their Project Managers are technically capable enough with regards to planning and programme management. As well as making sure everything is going well in house, this position will be client facing to make sure the client is satisfied and deal with any problems the client might have.

The types of works you will be involved in will mainly be Thames Water Capital Delivery projects (infrastructure) as well as working on pumping station construction and maintenance, reservoir works and repairing and installing pipework in open-cut trenches.

Requirements

Due to this being a Senior position within the business it’s extremely important you are educated at a degree level within Civil Engineering or Construction. I will be looking for somebody who comes from an engineering background (who’s worked for a specialist utility contractor) and somebody who has a technical understanding with regards to project planning, programming and organisation. You will not be considered for this position if you haven’t managed in house Project Management teams as well as being in a client facing role.

About the rewards

There are some really good benefits to this opportunity, it’s a great career option for somebody from an Operational background to move into a Director position within the next couple of years. On top of having great career opportunities you will be rewarded with a brilliant basic salary ranging from £70,000 – £90,000 + a £6900 car allowance, Private Medical Insurance cover for family (Medical history disregarded, so very comprehensive cover), Life Assurance, Pension, Medical Cash Scheme, Permanent Health Insurance as well 25 days ‘ holiday with bank holidays on top.
