About the company 

My client is a multi-disciplined Civil Engineering contractor, with its parent group turning over in circa £1b. They work with both public and private sector customers in the specialist sectors of rail, highways, and engineering. Their clients include HS2, local councils, Highways England, and well-known residential and commercial developers. They deliver nationally but are organised regionally. As a company, they pride themselves on the technical capabilities of their staff, their high standard of work, and the amount of repeat business they are rewarded. The part of the business I’m recruiting for is the highways business. They work on term maintenance schemes, street lighting, surfacing, utilities, and traffic management. They have offices based in the Midlands, Peterborough, Kent, Surrey, and Hertfordshire and are very sociable- always hosting a summer party and a Christmas party, giving you the opportunity to interact with other teams on a personal level, staff morale is exceptionally high and a prime focus for the business.

About the opportunity 

My client is actively looking for a highways inspector to join their ever-growing team and work on highway maintenance schemes. The majority of the works will be working with local councils on long-term framework agreements. Your day-to-day duties will involve assisting in the review of safety inspection routes and ensure resources are assigned and optimised to meet the inspection regime and specification set out, keep records of highway inspections using computerised systems, updating as necessary. You will also need to ensure that all works are conducted in line with the Legal and Company Health and Safety procedures. This is a permanent opportunity and my client can offer you long-term stability.

On top of this, you will be given a basic salary ranging from £25,000 – £35,000 + package. Due to working on several different frameworks, my client can offer you long-term stability and progression into different roles within the company. If you don’t already have it, my client would also put you through a City & Guilds course.


You need to have a technical understanding and Knowledge of Highway Law, Health and safety regulations and codes of good practice, CDM, etc. The successful candidate will need to be computer literate with knowledge of, New Roads and Street Works Act, Highways Act, and Asset Management systems. A UK driving license is critical to allow you to drive from different sites.
