About the company

My client is a multi-disciplined well known main contractor with a superb reputation within Civil Engineering, Rail, and Construction. They are well established and have been trading for over 60 years. Their national presence has allowed them to open and maintain 7 national offices, covering locations such as London, Kent, Surrey, Liverpool, and Southampton (this role will be based in London Waterloo) and they are turning over £300M. They have worked on major projects and frameworks such as CP5, CP6, HS2, and the M25 smart motorways projects.

About the opportunity 

Due to the company’s ongoing expansion and very healthy pipeline regarding work they’re now in a position where they can bring another member on board to join the health and safety team. The successful candidate will be in charge of using the company’s health and safety policies and putting them into practice, preparing their risk assessments, and going on-site to make sure everything is safe and that the members of staff who are on-site are following company procedures and legal procedures. This will be a hands-on position but also a strategic position, a position where you can make a positive influence on the business and can have a say on how the team and company’s health and safety department is run.

You will work within the companies’ highways division as well as the rail division, but you will mainly be working on rail projects. The types of projects will be depot infrastructure and refurbishment, platform extensions, bridge infrastructure, structural repairs, retaining structures, smart motorways, highway infrastructure, and Safe Cycle Routes. Projects could range from £1M – £50M.

To be successful in this role you’ll have to show certain skills, and characteristics and follow certain duties such as: Making sure that all members of staff are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and providing advice when it’s needed.

You’ll be in charge of carrying out accident/incident investigations by the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.

Requirements 

You must have a NEBOSH in construction and have over 5 years of working in health, safety, quality, and environmental positions. It is also essential that you have worked on either highway infrastructure, rail infrastructure, or a major civil engineering project in the UK, whilst in a health and safety position. The company is looking for someone who has good stability on their CV also.
