My client is a multi-disciplined well known main contractor with a superb reputation within Civil Engineering, Rail, and Construction. They are well established and have been trading for over 60 years. Their national presence has given them the opportunity to open and maintain 7 national offices, covering locations such as London, Kent, Surrey, Liverpool, and Southampton (this role will be based in London Waterloo) and they are turning over £300M.

This position has come about due to the growing growth of the company and they have recently won a new Framework within their rail division. The projects that they get involved in range in value from £200,000 up to £24M and they see them through from inception to completion. There Pre-Construction team has a tremendous amount of experience of over 40 years within Rail and Civil Engineering which helps the more junior staff to learn and train correctly. About the opportunity

My client is looking for an Estimator to join their Rail Pre-delivery team in London Waterloo. The successful candidate has a great opportunity to work closely with the Manage Estimating. The role allows the opportunity to work in a hybrid working environment between home and office based.

The firm has over £1 billion of secured projects in the pipeline to keep candidates busy till the end of the decade. As a result of winning the Framework, this now allows the successful candidate to work in a nice friendly environment. The type of works that you will get involved in range from Tunnelling Maintenance, major earthworks, bridges, platform extensions, drainage, embankment within a rail environment, and building new stations. These projects will range in value from £200,000 – £22M. They are looking for somebody interested in a long-term job and willing to progress their career. Ideally, they are looking for somebody to Coordinate with the bid management team to develop a schedule of key dates for individual estimates (inquiries, pricing, and adjudication).

Requirements

You will be required to have a good standard of education preferably to degree qualified or Foundation Degree level (HND, HNC) in a relevant field to the industry.

Candidates will need to have excellent communication skills and have an understanding of construction techniques and outputs. Along with being contractually aware and can take off quantities from project drawings. It is essential to have experience in managing Health and Safety procedures and be commercial acumen and be aware of internal and external customers.

Ideally, I am looking for someone with at least 5 years of experience working as an Estimator for a UK-based Civil Engineering contractor or have to experience in pre-delivery. However, I am also open to looking at a Senior Engineer or Sub Agent who is interested in getting into Estimating. If you are a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer, you need to have had good stability working for Civil Engineering contractors. You will also need a full UK driver’s license to allow to get from the office to the construction site and to other locations you might require to visit.
