Civil Engineering

£40,000 – £60,000 + package (depended on experience)

About the company

My client is an established Civil Engineering contractor with a brilliant reputation across Birmingham and the West Midlands. They operate at a turnover of £35M per annum and have been operating for 70+ years. They operate as a Main Contractor on projects, dealing with clients such as Birmingham County Council, Worcester County Council, and Warwickshire County council. They also operate as a specialist sub-contractor for developers as well as main contractors such as Laing O’Rourke & J. Murphy & Sons. The types of works they specialise in are highways, roads, S278 works, and groundworks.

About the opportunity

My client is now looking for an Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team and work closely with the Estimating Director/Principle Estimator. You will be working on projects ranging in value from £10,000 – £10M, this could be public realm frameworks or civil engineering schemes such as roads, highways, or groundworks. The successful individual will need to attend pre and post-tender meetings with the client, prepare cost models from first principles for use when estimating, budgeting, and forecasting as well as prepare the price of tenders and estimates in line with the company vision. Due to the hands-on nature of my client, you will also occasionally get involved in other things such as putting together the programme of works.

About the requirements

In a perfect world, my client is looking for someone who comes from an engineering background and has worked as an Estimator for the past 3/4 years for a self-delivering highway and civil engineering contractor. However, they are fairly open to someone who is working in an Agent or Project Manager role and is interested in moving into an Estimator role. They are also open to a Quantity Surveyor who is looking to move into an Estimator position.

It is essential that you have experience working in some form of Civil Engineering & Infrastructure for a UK-based contractor.

Benefits and rewards

My client is a hands-on contractor, this will allow you to get involved in lots of different jobs and no day is the same. On top of this, your line manager is willing to invest time and effort into training and improving the successful candidate. You will also be rewarded with a great salary ranging in value from £40,000 – £60,000 + a package.
