ABOUT THE ROLE

Our esteemed client seeks an adept Design Manager to bolster their design team based in Heathrow. This role calls for a professional well-versed in delivering projects spanning the £5 million to £40 million range, primarily in the Hotel and High-spec Residential sectors, often within demanding urban landscapes. You will be instrumental in a diverse array of projects across all phases of pre-construction and project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the comprehensive design process to craft solutions that not only meet but exceed customer requirements and framework objectives.

• Identify contractual, financial, technical, and operational risks, seizing opportunities for value engineering to minimize risk and maximize contract profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction.

• Provide crucial support for the successful execution of the contract pipeline, prioritizing safety, timeliness, and quality.

• Lead the selection of design and associated consultants, capturing contractual requirements and clearly defining deliverables using tools like the IRS, MIDP/Design Responsibility Matrix, and Scope of Services.

• Evaluate and assess fee proposals from consultants, actively managing and monitoring their performance, fostering a collaborative approach to deliver robust, well-coordinated designs on schedule and within budget. Spearhead KPI assessments and produce progress reports as needed.

• Facilitate and manage the development of CDP Packages, ensuring compliance and seamless coordination.

• Assess consultants in compliance with CDM 2015 requirements, ensuring full consideration of health, safety, and buildability in designs.

• Take ownership of all design processes and information flow on Design and Build and heavily CDP contracts, aligning design outputs with the relevant RIBA Stages.

• Ideally, possess a strong understanding of BIM to aid in the development of a BIM Strategy in line with the Client’s requirements, with support from consultants and Group BIM resources.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To thrive in this role, candidates must possess substantial industry experience directly related to high-spec hotels and residential projects, underpinned by a robust commercial acumen. Effective management and motivational skills are essential for guiding your team to success. A strong grasp of contractual intricacies is crucial for identifying risks and opportunities with clients and subcontractors. Additionally, the ability to meticulously plan and manage construction works, while pinpointing key interfaces, risks, and opportunities throughout the process, is paramount.

A prerequisite for this role is experience in leading projects of a similar type and scale, coupled with a track record of stability within reputable companies.
