Commercial Manager

Highways Maintenance

Braintree, Essex

£70,000 – £85,000 + package (dependent on experience)

About the opportunity

Are you tired of working long hours and not being rewarded? Are you tired of being treated like a number and not a name? And are you tired of doing the same repetitive works all day and every day? If so, this opportunity is the one for you. My client is looking for a Commercial Manager to oversee the whole Commercial team and report directly into Director level, working closely with the owners of the business.  As mentioned already, you will oversee the whole Commercial team, this gives you the opportunity to really make a difference, get the team performing the way you want them to perform, train them and manage them the way you want them to be managed and help get the best out of everyone, in your own style. The types of works you will be covering will be a mixture of highways works including section 278 works for developments and commercial projects but the majority of what you will be working on will be highways maintenance.

About the company

My client is a Tier 2 contractor turning over £50M (and growing) and specialising within highways. Company culture is important isn’t it? My client also agrees. They are a tight-knit team with an exceptionally low staff turnover, this is due to recognition of hard work and performance from the owners and a great working environment. Company values are also extremely important, they believe in respect, teamwork, excellence, and integrity as well as a few others. Over the past couple of years, they have appointed several well experienced and well-respected individuals within the sector to help them grow as a business but grow effectively and efficiently.

What is not to like about a privately owned, expanding contractor that look after their staff?

Requirements

This is an important opportunity for my client, so it does come with some strict requirements. They are looking for somebody who has worked for a rival highways’ maintenance contractor (UK based only) and self-delivered highways projects. You will need to be degree qualified within Commercial & Quantity Surveying degree or Civil Engineering. You will not be considered for this opportunity if you are freelance or don’t have a stable CV working for UK based highways contractors (Stable is ideally 3/4 years at least per contractor). I’m not finished yet, the final requirement is somebody who’s worked in a commercial leadership position, looking after a team of Quantity Surveyors, training them, supporting them and getting the best out of them.

Benefits and rewards

Fair play if you are still reading this but we have finally got down to the fun and exciting topics. My client is open to salary, initially they will be looking to pay between £70,000 – £85,000 (depending on how long you have been in a leadership role). On top of this, you will be joining a contractor going through long term growth, you can be part of this!
