Our privately owned client who has regional offices throughout the UK, is a multifaceted enabling works contractor who holds over 30 years proven experience in demolition, asbestos removal and general infrastructure. This contractor works on a range of projects, varying in scale and complexity, to include minor works of residential properties through to large scale nuclear schemes. Over the last several years, this client has grown to be one of the largest and most successful enabling works contractors in Europe with an annual turnover in excess of £150M.

About the opportunity:

Due to successful company growth, my client who is a leading enabling works contractor, is recruiting permanently for a divisional buyer to join their London team. As a divisional buyer, you will have responsibility for sourcing and purchasing materials, goods and services for the demolition and basement division, focusing on minimising spending costs whilst maintaining an awareness of quality and environmental issues.

An organised and efficient mind is needed to work practically with site teams to make sure not only are materials ordered at competitive prices, but also that they arrive on site when needed.

For this opportunity, general duties / responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Day to day procurement of materials, goods and services to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the division’s projects
  • Liaising directly with site personnel to provide advice and guidance to assist in delivery of projects
  • Ensuring suppliers meet required delivery timescales
  • Monitoring and recording supply chain performance
  • Sourcing, researching and approving new suppliers as and when required
  • Negotiating prices with suppliers
  • Assisting commercial teams with tender process, obtaining competitive pricing
  • Daily interface with the company-specific EZONE electronic document management system and COINS accounts system
  • Recording and benchmarking buying betterment
  • Producing monthly buying reports to line manager

About the requirements:

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must have good knowledge of the construction industry in general however specific knowledge and experience of civils / infrastructure materials (i.e. drainage, ready-mixed concrete, reinforcement etc.) would be advantageous.

About the benefits and rewards:

As with most of the positions I recruit for, salary is dependent on experience, but I am expecting to consider professionals who are currently earning or looking to earn anywhere from £40,000 to £45,000 per annum. If you meet the criteria I have listed for previous experience, this ball park area should be expected. Additional benefits such as car allowance, pension and bonuses can be discussed at the point of interview.
