About the Opportunity:

We’ve been asked to find a materials buyer for one of our groundwork subcontractors in Surrey. This role will report to the existing head of procurement and will offer opportunities for those looking to develop their career and progress with time. Your day-to-day duties will involve liaising with sites to make sure all items are being ordered and delivered at the correct times to keep operations running smoothly. While trade agreements are in place you may from time to time be required to negotiate on prices with suppliers but this should be normal for anyone who has done this before. So, all in all, this opportunity offers an excellent position with a market leader in the groundwork sector, but in addition, there is potential for the future of your career.

 

About the Company:

With a head office in Surrey, this business operates as a £40m turnover groundwork subcontractor. They cover projects in and around London but the majority of their work is within 15 miles from the bottom half of the M25. Project or package values range from £1m up to £10m each, working with a variety of residential and commercial main contractors and developers. This contractor is still privately owned and they maintain a very positive reputation with not only clients but also with direct competition. From all reports, they are a friendly business that is good at what they do.

 

About the Requirements:

To be successful all applicants need to have previous experience either working for a rival groundwork subcontractor as a Buyer OR must have worked for a merchant/supplier selling the same materials to these subcontractors. Either one of these scenarios will mean you have an understanding of all the items involved and the sort of rates for each. In addition to this experience because of the location of our client, all applicants need to be able to commute on a daily basis to the Surrey area (inside the M25).

 

About the Benefits:

The estimated starting salary for this role has been given as £30,000 to £45,000 and will be based on previous experience in this role. In addition to this, you can expect additional benefits including a company pension scheme and target-based bonuses further down the line. Outside of these package-based items, I do also consider it a benefit that you will be working for a well-respected business that has an excellent reputation for staff retention. They hold on to their team, so you can be assured they must be doing something right!
