About the company

My client is a leading contractor within the rail industry, turning over £400M +. They are part of a multi-disciplined Civil Engineering group that is leading the way in the industry regarding talent, innovation, and the standard or project delivery. They work on everything you can regarding rail, such as track maintenance, high voltage, low voltage, signalling, rail infrastructure, track renewals, and electrification. With over 70 years of experience delivering rail schemes they have become a preferred contractor with Network Rail on projects across the UK, schemes range in value from £80M – £350M.

About the Role 

My client is currently seeking a Bid Manager to manage bids for the rail team on major projects that will value up to £400M +. The projects will range in location from Scotland down to the South of England but you will be based in Rotherham. The types of projects that you will be working on will be schemes and frameworks which will involve infrastructure and maintenance. You will be joining an experienced team that has been with the company for several years. You will be working alongside other Bid managers and looking after a couple of Bid Coordinators whilst having good relationships with the Estimating team. Due to the long-term stability of all the members of staff within the Pre-Construction team, they are looking for somebody who can bring fresh ideas and new ways of thinking to help them with their growing list of tenders. The Pre-Construction team are extremely friendly, sociable, and very close with each other, they have a strong family feel about them.

The role will include:

  • regular meetings with key stakeholders and sub-contractors to build strong relationships.
  • prepare presentations and lead on mid-bid presentations and post-submission presentations.
  • Liaise with, coordinate and manage the bid team.
  • Attend pre and post award meetings with clients to facilitate the operational and commercial handover of the project.

Benefits and rewards

The successful candidate will be rewarded with a salary ranging in value from £50,000 – £70,000 + package, depending on experience. You will be working for one of, if not the best rail contractor in the UK. A contractor with a low staff turnover and a contractor who works on some of the best and biggest rail projects in the UK. You will also get either a company car or a car allowance, private health care, and a pension.


  • Experience working within any form of Civil Engineering within the UK.
  • You will need at least 5 years’ worth of experience working as a Bid Manager on Civil Engineering schemes based in the UK.
  • I’m looking for someone with strong stability on their CV (E.G at least 3 years per company you have worked for).
  • UK driving license.
