Rickmansworth Pancake Race – winners!!

Today saw the return of the Rickmansworth Pancake Race to celebrate this year’s Shrove Tuesday and raise money for local charity Watford Mencap. This annual event sees local businesses compete in a fun, pancake flipping relay! And this year was no different. The traffic stopped, people lined the paths (even in the freezing rain!), cheering on teams as they raced down the high street (a good few in fancy dress!) all vying to take home the coveted winners shield.

This year, we were fortunate enough to not only sponsor the event, we only went and won it as well! (For the second year in a row.) Glory aside, we entered to help raise as much money for this local charity and support the community where we are based. Watford Mencap currently supports 600 people in the local Rickmansworth and Watford area with a learning disability and their carers.

Of the event, Amanda Jenshil, the Community Fundraiser at Watford Mencap said, “The event is an annual tradition in Rickmansworth; it is always keenly contested! We hugely appreciate the support of the teams that enter. Last year we raised a fantastic £3200. This meant that eight children with a learning disability could attend our after-school club for a term. We hope to raise enough to fund these children for another term this year.”

At the prize given ceremony, Amanda announced the total for this year was nearly £4000! This is wonderful news and more children will be able to attend the after-school club as a result.

You can still donate to the event here until the 28th February.
